As some of you might know Audra and I are exoecting our new bundle of joy on January 21st, 2011. We have been hard at work getting the baby's room ready for 2012. When we decided to creat the room we decided to go outside the box for colours. We added wainscotting to the room and a chair rail to complement.

So here is the info:

This weekend Audra and I with my parents went to Morrisburg to Chrysler Farm next to upper Canada Village to see the re-enactment. It was pretty cool you should take a look at the pictures on my website. The pictures can be found under places visited in Ontario.

Salt Museum

Audra and I spent the weekend in Syracuse for some R&R. We did some shopping and visited some of the sites in the area.

One of the places that we visited is the Salt Museum. Liverpool , NY that was a key area for producing salt from the salt brine in Lake Onondaga from 1862 - 1920 it employed more then 3000 people in its peak era in 1899. There were more then 30 companies producing salt for most of the USA.

Day at the Sugar Shack..

Sunday April 10th, 2011

So on Sunday Audra, Tammy, Nathan, Bobby, Kim and I went to the sugar shack for a tast of maple syrup, bacon (oreilles de criss), Pancakes, Eggs, potatoes, Sausage, beans and ham. What a great breakfast...hmmm...

We then toured the site there was no more snow so we could not go on horse and sleigh ride. So we did some taffy on snow and looks around and took many pictures. I was a beautiful day for sure.

My cousin got married on the 19th of December in Cornwall and the family and I had a great time. There was a lot of dancing and cheer for the bride and groom. It was great to see everyone together. They had a brass ensemble that played wonderfull music for the night.

Star Wars in Concert

This week I went to see a concert Star Wars in Concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra hosted by Anthony Daniels. I must say this was a really amazing show and was worth every penny that I spent on it.

The opening was the like every movie....but it was really cool the light effects the fire bombs and the screen...I wish I have this in my house....lol 40ft x 30ft...

Santa Claus Parade

Here are some pictures from the 105th annual Toronto Santa Claus Parade.

It was warm on this day and from the place that I was standing the bands and the floats are stopping in front from were I am and it was really good.

It would be a little better if there was a little snow.

Toronto Maple Leafs

This week I got up a little earlier then usual as there was a skating rink erected in the downtown core of the city. It was a pretty cool rink but certainly a lot smaller then a NHL rink. The ice was actually made of glace...a sort of plastic ice.

It was retty cool to see the leafs out showing people what they can do.

Toronto Metro Zoo

This weekend I went to the Toronto Metro Zoo with some of my fellow photographers. It was a great day warm and there are many animals that we saw. I realized that the next time I am going to the Zoo that I should bring paper towels and some windex. It is difficult to take some pictures through the glass when there are hands and dirt all over them. I think that the reason is there are many children and adults that love to touch the glass. There are a few things that I have scene today that I am a little worried about. The new tundra area of the park have a fence that kind of looks like a maximum security jail for Army personel. I am worried that the zoo is starting to build things that would prevent people from photographing the beauties that the animals have to offer. Maybe I am a little complainer but those are my thoughts.

Toronto international Airshow

This weekend I went out to the Toronto Airshow and took about 2000 pictures of airplanes flying overhead. There were about 300 of those pictures that can be used. The day was a little bit of a challenge as the sun was shinning bright on the water and the smoke that the planes use in there demonstration causes a little haze. I learned this weekend that taking pictures when the sky is blue is better then when the shine of the sun is on the water causing it to wash out all of the pictures.

On Saturday August 22nd we celebrated the summer with a family BBQ. My Uncle and his 2 daughters were down from Spain so we had to have end of summer celebration with them before they headed back to Spain.

Here is a little story about Sunflower fields. I have been looking for a sunflower field for the last 2 years and finaly found one. I have been extremely excited about it. I found a geotag on google and was not sure if the field would be there as the tag was dated to 2007.

Old Mills of Ontario

Sorry that I have not been great at keeping up my blog. This week I was out and about with my photo group and saw many new spots and mills around Ontario.

The Mills that we visited are the Lang Mill, Hope Mill, Baltmore Mill, Molson Mill and a couple of others.

Lang Mill

In 1846, Thomas Short, later member of the Parliament of Canada for Peterborough County, erected this stone flour mill here on the Indian River. Within five years he had built a sawmill across the river and had laid out a village plot named Allandale. By 1858, the Allandale Flour Mill, which now also housed an oatmeal mill, had become one of the largest in the region and was exporting large quantities of its products. Short encountered financial difficulties however, and lost possesion of the mill in 1862. The village and the mill were re-named Lang after William Lang about 1872. The mill, whose interior was rebuilt by W.J.Humphries after a fire in 1896, continued in operation until 1965 when it was purchased by the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority.

Hope Mill.

The Hope Mill was built on the bank of the Indian River in the early 1800's. The mill and dam remain on their original site, contributing to the unique character of this historic landmark of Peterborough County. The Hope Mill and dam are owned by Otonabee Conservation. The heritage restoration efforts are being undertaken by the Otonabee Conservation Foundation.

Molson Mill

On the Ganaraska River at Port Hope Molson's Mill was built in the mid 1850's by Thomas Molson. The mill was originally operated as a saw and gristmill and later used by the Ontario College of Art.

Don Jail

Here are some pictures of the Don Jail. I visited the site for the first time during open doors Toronto. It is a pretty amazing onld building too bad we could not visit the whole building. The jail is in disrepair and needs a few $$$$ to make it better.

Here is some history from wikipedia.

The Toronto Jail was built between 1862 and 1865 (predating Canadian Confederation by two years) with most of the current jail facilities being built in the 1950s, although a jail has stood on the site since 1858. Designed by architect William Thomas in 1852, its distinctive façade in the Italianate style with a pedimented central pavilion and vermiculated columns flanking the main entrance portico is one of the architectural treasures of the city and one of very few pre-Confederation (1867) structures that remains intact in Toronto. For example, it is over thirty years older than Toronto's Romanesque Old City Hall. Owing to its sturdy construction, its interior has gone largely unchanged in the last fifty years as renovations would be both difficult and expensive, even in an empty facility; as such, it is considered badly outdated as a prison facility. The adjoining "New Jail" was built in 1958 and remained in operation after the "Old Jail" closed in 1977.

Cherry Blossoma at High Park

Last weekend I spent Saturday morning admiring the cherry blossoms at High Park in Toronto. It was pretty cool to see the trees all in bloom. I just love the colours and the smell of these flowers.

The trees are Japanese Cherry Blossom Trees. I think that these were a donation from the japanese community. These are beautiful trees see for yourself.

Wow so it has been a long time since I have written in my blog. I am so sorry as I have been incredibly busy with leaving and old job and starting training for a new job. It has been a wirlwind of a few weeks.

I am so happy that spring is finally here and the weather can't seem to decide what it wants to do. I am looking forward this weekend and heading to High Park in Toronto to see if I can catch the beginning of the Japanese Cherry Blossom season.

I was there last year and loved what I saw so I am off again this year to see what pictures I will see.

Troy, Ontario

This weekend I was out in the Hamilton area to drop of some pictures to a client and I took a little detour and ended up on HWY 5 towards Brantford in a little village called Troy.

There is a united church there and and old school house that I took pictures of they were really nice buildings and worth the stop. The buildings are circa 1840's. The churchin the picture is Mount Carmel United church.

Madrid, Spain

So on my last day on my trip to Spain I visited Madrid and saw many things around the area. I saw the castle were the king and queen live. There were many guards outside the building for protection.

I saw the cathedral and many other location I really enjoyed my visit for sure.

Thyrone Mills

Yesterday my photogroup and I went to the Purple Tree Conservation area Maple Syrup festival and then to Thyrone Mills.

I was very happy to see the maple syrup still bubling out of the evaporator as it has been a pretty amazing year according to the folks there. They have been able to make 500+ liters of maple syrup and the sap was still flowing out of the trees. While there I was able to sample hot cider and eat pancakes with fresh maple syrup...mmm

Afterwards there was a suggestion to go to a place called Thyrone Mills just north on Bowmanville, Ontario. Now I have driven by this place on countless times as this is the route that I took to Cornwall on the weekends but never stopped.

It is the oldest working mill in Ontario and it dates back to 1846. They process there own flower and also cutes there own lumber. It is a pretty amazing place to see. You can tour the area there is a pond with duck in it. There is an old rusted truck on the site that I took pictures of...a photographers dream.

What a great day.

Abandoned Building of Durham

I was reading a post on TPMG and they were talking about the abandoned buildings that have been bought by Transport Canada.

These building will be destroyed to make way for the Pickering Airport build. These buildings can be found on Highway 7 and Brock Rd and on Sideroad 30 and Concession 9.

Alhambra

So here is the the third post on my trip to Spain.

This particular post has to do with the Alhambra, in Granada Spain. So here is what I have learned about this place. The palace was completed around the end of the muslim rule of Spain in 1492. The contruction of the palace began approx. 1333 at the high of the Yusuf 1 and Mohamed V. The palace was created as a reflection of the hay day of the empire.

There are a few buildings on the site that are by all means worth to see.

There is the Palace of Charles the V. This palace was constructed in the reneissance style. This is a square building with a rounded courtyard in the center of the palace. This was completed arounf 1550. This is a beautiful palace that conveys strength of the ruler and the movement of catholisism after 1492.

Palace of Nazaire.

Now this palace is worth the admission of the Alhambra and 10 times more in my opinion. This palace was constructed around 1333 I beleive and it showcases the artestry of the people of have build this palace. There are arabe carvings on many of the palace walls, sculptured and manicured. It is such a beautiful place.

Spain - Granada.

So this is the second part of my blog from the Spain.

So I have scene many places around the city while I was there. Some of these places are the Cathedral of Granada. This is where Queen Isabella the Catholic is burried with her husband and children.

Granada was the place were Christopher Columbus got the money from the queen to find america. It is also the last city of the Arabs to return to Spain and catholics in 1492.

There is certainly many things about the history of Granada that blogging about will not do it justice.

Spain

So here I am home after my trip from Spain. I am trying to recover from the jetlag and I am almost over it and now we need to change our clocks forward and hour.

So I am sure you are asking were did I go and what did I visit? Over the next couple of days I will point out some of the places that I have seen and some of the things that I did.

So I arrived in Spain on Friday the 13th after a long flight and a long bus ride I arrived in Granada Spain. My uncle picked me up from the bus station and off I went to Caja the town that he lives in on the outskirts of the city. I made aquaintance with his partners daughters and caught up on what has been happening for the last year or so.

After that I moved into my room and unpacked. Gave out some gifts and then just enjoyed the company. That night around 8 pm local time we went out to the bar for a little party and some Tapas....so good.

Here are a few pictures that I took on my first couple of days there.

So here I am ready to depart for Spain for 2.5 weeks starting on Wednesday and returning at the end of the month of February!!

As for some of the places that I am intending to visit there is Seville, Granada, Cordoba and finally Madrid. I am bringing my camera of course but not all of my usuall gear as I am trying to travel a little lighter then usuall.

I am going to bring my Nikon d200, Battery Grip, flash, 3 Lenses and that is pretty much it.

So the adventures begin and I will update my blog and might add pictures as we move through the 2 weeks. So keep on checking.

Andalousia Spain

I am heading to the south of Spain the in the next couple of weeks and looking forward to the long awaited vacation. I have been working pretty hard over the last couple of years on my career as a Logistics Coordinator and a photographer.

I think that once I have taken my pictures as most of you know that I will certainly have my camera with me on the trip so that I can take as many pictures that I can. I think that once that I have scene and edited most of my pictures I will work on getting a coffee table book published. It will be pretty exciting.

I should head back and study some of the places that I will be visiting while in Spain. Seville, Madrid and Granada are some of the cities on my list to visit.

Some of the places that I would love to see is Alhambra, Albaicin, Cathedral of Granada, Royal Chapel and so much more

3 Weeks until Christmas

I cannot believe that it is only 3 weeks until Christmas. I have most of my shopping done for the holidays and just need to wrap all of my gifts...reminds me need wrapping paper.

Yesterday November 29th, 2008 was the company children christmas party at Black Creek Pioneer Village. It was a lot of fun and I helped out fellow photographer Donna Brandt take pictures of the families and Santa.

So last week at work I took some pictures of people in costumes. There was a lot of great dressed people. I was dressed up as a parcel lost by DHL...should have been delivered in Hawaii but ended up in Toronto. Go Figure!!!

Moving Day Blues

So last weekend October 25th, 2008 I moved from one apartment building to another for the sake of saving money. What a terrible move it was!! The front part of the building were you would usually park the truck to move the furniture and boxes was under repair and they pulled up all of the ashphalt so we had to treck the furniture and boxes 600 feet more and had to deal with stairs, hills and most of all the rain. With a time constraint at the other building that we had to share the elevator with every other person in the building as one of the 2 elevators was in repair.

So the good news is that now I have a great view of the CN tower and the building lights from around the area. Now I have to buy new curtains so that I can sleep in on Saturday morning...That is the next challenge for sure...

Well that is about it...I will post pictures very soon...once I am all unpacked..

So today I was looking at my stats on the my website and the pictures posted on Sunday night of the Toronto Zombie walk has had 30272 hits thus far and we are talking about 3 days since the posting it blows my mind that there were so many hits.

I googled Toronto Zombie Walk 2008 and noticed that I am number 8 on the list from the search engine that is pretty good.

New Camera and Flash

So Yesterday I purchased two new photography toys. I bough a Nikon D200 and a SB-600 Flash. Both of these items were needed to upgrade my skills and they are versatile and will help me in my photography Quest. I am pretty excited about the new camera challenge. Thoughts of pictures

So this summer I took part of the Bubble Battle in Toronto. It was pretty amazing to the see the people and the children that were around for the battle. Some of the organizers were dressed up and I must say they surely had lots of flare.

Looking back at the pictures and to see how far I have progressed since taking these pictures os pretty amazing.

So this weekend I went out to High Park in Toronto and with the company of Naredeh took some pictures around the park and enjoyed the weather. It was a little chilly but pretty good. The trees are in transition and I think that another week of warm weather and cool nights and we will have a spectacular fall leaf showing.

Night At the Ball Game

So this evening I went to one of the last Blue Jays Game of the series. It was a pretty good game and I was in good company with my friend Kathleen. AJ Burnette pitched for 8 innings and did a really good job.

International Film Festival in Toronto

So this weekend I decided to go out star gazing in Toronto and see what stars I would see. So I went to Roy Thompson Hall and say Anne Hathaway...she is so gorgeous. Then off to the Intercontiental Hotel on Bloor street and there I saw Larry Charles (Director of 18 Seinfeld episodes), Jacob Pitts one of the team members in the movie 21, Adam Scott from the movie Knocked UP (he was the male nurse) and finally Sam Neil he played a major character in the movie Jurrasic Park... It was a great weekend..I think that I will try to get a picture of Antonio Banderas tonight at the 9pm opening of his new film The Other Man.

This week was the Paris Fair in Paris, Ontario. On Saturday we went to the smash up derby and met some pretty cool people. There were a lot on interesting people too.

I got to meet Walter Gretzky. This man is pretty amazing he caught me talking a picture while he was dancing and came to me and said you need a picture with me too.
